The Granth Mahotsav at the Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) campus recorded a rousing response on Day 2. The three-day book festival has seen more than 50 book publishers taking part in the event. The event showcased a wide array of books including competitive exam books and other literary works by various authors.
Students said,” Such initiatives are necessary. "We are in the era of social media and the internet boom. The general mindset prevails that as hundreds of channels are aired on TV, then why should one opt for books? The answer to this can only be discovered after one visits such book festivals," they said.?
Many publishers have even offered a discount of around 20-30% for the event. A stall receiving an enthusiastic response from the event is one selling 'saree bags'. The Shahu College National Service Scheme (NSS) unit has come up with the unique saree bag as an alternative to the plastic carry bags available in the markets. ?
"The bags have been made using old sarees to promote recycling and reuse," a stall representative said. Devanand Shinde, the SUK vice-chancellor has appealed to participants embrace this eco-friendly initiative.
