President of India, Shri. Ram Nath Kovind addressed the students at the convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi) on November 4, 2017. On this occasion, honourable President of India urged the students and alumni if IIT Delhi to pay back to society by helping the underprivileged students. They could possibly play a significant role in undertaking short teaching stints as well as sponsoring scholarships. He further pointed that all the great universities across the world have a thriving and deep engagement between old students and the institution or university.
Adding further, Shri. Ram Nath Kovind called for the alumni of the institute to play a vital role in knowledge sharing apart from providing or offering financial assistance. There are many ways to share knowledge and IIT Delhi has enough resources to enable students to interact with the alumni.

President of India indicated that the IIT Delhi alumni were fortunate that their education was heavily subsidised by the taxpayer. In return of that, it is their moral responsibility to help the needy and underprivileged students in some way or the other, he added.
He advised the authorities of IIT Delhi to invite and involve alumni associated with various universities, institutes or organisations to come and teach at least for a short period or for a specific course. On the other hand, being a premier institute, IIT Delhi can associate with a needy school and help its children and faculty, he stressed.

Shri. Ram Nath Kovind expressed his happiness over the fact that the strength of postgraduate students has increased considerably in the recent years. He appreciated the researchers and faculty of the premier institute for their dedication and hard work.
