The High Court of Patna has mentioned that the Saidpur hostel complex of Patna University is unfit to accommodate students. It clearly stated that the hostel is unfit even for animals to live. The court took the issue seriously and ordered the Vice-Chancellor of Patna University, Chief Secretary, Bihar and Managing Director of State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation to appear before the court on October 28, 2016.

The division bench of Justice Nilu Agarwal and Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh heard a PIL initiated by Suo Motu on media reports after the recovery of bombs from the hostel premises. The judges expressed their concern over the dilapidated condition of the hostel and questioned the state government for not revamping the hostel. They expressed that the present situation of the university and hostel concerns them. The judges also ordered the officials concerned to visit the Saidpur hostel before coming to the court on October 28, 2016.
The court also complained regarding the construction of a boundary wall of the hostel. The work for the same has not been initiated yet, even though the state government granted funds long ago.
Previously, there were nine hostels for Patna University. However, two hostels were abandoned, and seven are in working condition. The hostels of PU are well known for students politics and criminal activities.
Bhabha Hostel and PMCH Hostel are decent in comparison to the other hostels in terms of management and study. The state government has to take steps to revamp the hostels of PU as most of them are in a dilapidated condition.
