Mr. Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh clarified that no new private college in the state will get grant-in-aid and these colleges will need to generate own resources. Addressing the gathering at the annual day celebrations of MLSM College, he indicated that the colleges which are listed with the government will only get grant-in-aid.
He further added that the matters related to financial assistance for the listed colleges is under the scrutiny of the Education Department and the decision will be taken soon. On the other hand, the colleges which are already on the list of receiving financial assistance will be taken care of by the government. Moreover, he added that it is not possible to change the rules of the government, but certain relaxations could be given in particular areas.

As of now, new private colleges need to rely on self-financial assistance and they seek funds from external sources.
Mr. Virbhadra Singh stressed that congenial academic atmosphere and discipline are the important factors that an educational institute must maintain. He cautioned the students not to indulge in violence and hooliganism and there is no scope for these activities in higher learning institutes.

He further explained that the government has banned elections in universities and colleges to maintain peace and emphasized that students need to focus on character building and study hard to build a strong nation.
Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University was also present on the occasion and he indicated that severe action would be taken against those students who indulge in violence, hooliganism and other restricted activities.
