The Executive Council of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has approved the appointment of 58 assistant professors in various departments. A team of National Assessment and Accreditation Council(NAAC) will visit the varsity from October 3 to 6, 2016 and hence the initiative has been taken by the varsity to fill up all the vacant posts.

The interviews to fill up vacant posts were conducted in the years 2012, 2015 and 2016. However, the appointments were kept on hold due to court cases and other reasons. Currently, 40 percent posts are vacant in various departments of the varsity. Lack of faculty would lead to poor grading by NAAC. Hence the authorities have decided to make appointments.

The appointment letters would soon be issued for eight posts in Political Science, seven in History, nine posts each in Law and Hindi departments, four each in Mathematics and MBA and others.
The Executive Council of the varsity has decided to award M.Sc degree to postgraduates in Mathematics and allow Med degree holders to improve their division on payment of a fee of Rs, 10,000. The council has also approved the recommendations of Recruitment and Promotion Committee for appointments and promotions of non-teaching staff.
