Earlier last week, the results of the first semester of RUSA i.e. Rashtriya Shiksha Abhiyan were announced by the Himachal Pradesh University. 98 percent of students out of the total number failed the first semester. The number of failed students was so high that it was unbelievable to which students protested for reevaluation. Yesterday i.e. 6th September’ 16 the university announced that there was no problem with the results and all the students who have failed the exams will have to appear for a retest.

The semester exams were conducted in the month of December of 2015 and the result of the exams have left the students very frustrated. The University has insisted that there is no error and 98 percent of the students failed the exams.
Students are not ready to accept the announcement made by the university as the University has changed the grading system and the new grading system will be applicable for the students appearing for the retest too. According to the new rule, passing percentage is now 45 percent instead of 35 percent and the percentage of internal and external assessment is now 70 percent and 30 percent respectively. Earlier the percentage was 50 for both internal and external assessment.

The University is blaming the faculty members for this poor result and says that the core reason behind this is that there is a shortage of 1500 teachers.
