The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has been offering a wide range of Massive Online and Open courses (MOOCs) for the senior secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in various universities and colleges across the country. The Ministry has launched the courses in collaboration with University Grants Commission (UGC). These courses enable the students to gain more knowledge on the subject.

The portal for these online courses is called as Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM). The portal offers around 2,000 courses under a network/cloud of 80,000 hours of learning. It supports 10 lakh concurrent users and up to three crore learners. Currently, 200 courses are available in the portal.
Through SWAYAM, the students can listen audio or watch a video lesson. The portal also contains e-books, illustrations case studies, research papers, textbooks and self-assessments. Students can earn up to 20% credits through these courses.

The parent institution and the host institution are responsible for evaluating the students. The evaluation and assessment are done by conducting discussions, quizzes, session examinations and final examinations. the marks of the assessment will be communicated to the parent institution within four weeks from the date of assessment.The online courses are designed by a bunch of senior academians. These courses play a vital role in bridging the digital divide in the country.
