In a bid to improve the quality of school-level education the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry is looking into the possibility of establishing a university for teachers’ education.
While giving the information to PTI an official of HRD Ministry said, “ The National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) under the direction of the HRD Ministry is making concept note on the establishment of a Teachers’ University. Since such institutions existed abroad, now it is felt that a specialized university dealing with aspects related to teachers’ education would help in improving the standards of teachers education in the country.”
“There are regional institutes of the NCERT and It can be converted into a Teachers’ University. There are lots of other possibilities and these needs to be explored,” the same official said.
In another effort as to develop the school education, the HRD ministry is also going to request NCERT to create high-quality educational content for one of the 32 DTH channels
“Through the DTH channels, the NCERT content on education can reach into homes across the country. This is also we are planning. Again HRD ministry is also planning to raise the standard of school education. This includes a ‘Vidyanjali’ scheme. Under the scheme a retired defense personnel, people from Indian diaspora and women homemakers can volunteer educational related activities," said the same official.
