HRD Ministry has clarified that the government is not going to make any changes in the reservation policy for higher education. The clarification was given in response to the Law Ministry’s question regarding the disparity in reservation for SC/STs and OBCs in faculty positions in universities across the country.
Currently, the faculty positions are reserved at all three levels for SC and ST candidates. The three faculty post levels are Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. But in the case of OBCs, the reservation is only applicable at the entry level.
According to the UGC’s new order, reservation for the faculty will be done department wise in place of the total post in the universities. The order has caused and led to a lot of opposition as it could bring down the number of SC, ST and OBC faculty in higher education.
This had further caused an uproar and has forced the government to approach the Supreme Court in April regarding the Allahabad High Court Verdict all the faculty recruitment were put on hold.
