As per the latest UGC data , the number of students joining humanities courses has increased in the past three years. A senior HRD Ministry official stated that the total number of students enrolled in colleges and universities in the discipline of humanities, arts, social sciences and languages has increased in the last three years.

Gone those days when science courses used to attract the students. There was a general assumption that pursuing science courses will lead to a bright career. In the last three years, the assumption proved to be wrong as more students opting humanities courses are enjoying a successful career.
The recent UGC’s decision on distance learning courses has not gone well with various state-level universities across the country. The UGC has linked NAAC performance to distance education norms. Only those institutes with a NAAC score of 3.26 or above are allowed to offer distance education courses. Therefore, many state-level universities with NAAC score of 3 or above are demanding UGC grant permission for offering distance education courses.

Recently, UGC has also released the list of 24 self-styled and fake universities across the country . UGC cautioned students to not join in these varsities, as the degrees offered by these varsities are invalid.
