“The Case Centre Awards and Competitions 2016” that are considered the annual Oscars of the case method community were recently concluded with some of the best known business schools winning awards in different categories. In what can be termed as a remarkable achievement the ICFAI Business School (IBS), Hyderabad faculty won two awards at the event. One of these awards was won by the case study” IKEA in Russia: Ethical Dilemmas” that was authored by Prof GV Muralidhara and Namratha V Prasad in the category “Ethics and Social Responsibility.”
To get into the details of the case study, it basically documents the dilemma faced by a well-known company that does not want to dither from its own ethical standards even though by doing so it could have made going easier for itself. By studying the case study the students would realise how by giving into corruption does not make life easier in the long run.
The second case study that won the award in the “Knowledge, Information and Communication Systems Management Category” was “Netflix: Leveraging Big Data to Predict Entertainment Hits.” This case study was authored by Prof DebapratimPurkayastha and Tangirala Vijay Kumar.
The case study documents Netflix that is a DVD rental and video streaming company. This company began to employ big data in order to track, record, and assess detailed information about its customers’ viewing preferences, choices and habits. The case study would help students cognize the fact that how today’s managers are required to effectively leverage the exponential growth in the volume of data in meaningful ways that can further be used to drive business decision making.
The awards are now in their 26th year and celebrate excellence in business and management education worldwide. There are 9 categories in the management category that are Entrepreneurship, Ethics & Social Responsibility, Finance, Accounting & Control and Knowledge, Information & Communication Systems Management.
