In this era of digitization, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has adopted digital admit cards and has stopped the use of paper- based admit cards for its end term examinations which will begin from June 1, 2017 onwards. For the first time, all Kendriya Vidyalayas have been designated as examination centres. IGNOU is trying its level best to complete its end term examinations in 18 days and set a record.
2017 onwards, everything right from submitting examination forms to receiving admit cards has been made online. Students can now easily download their admit cards from the university's website and can report to the exam centres with their ID cards. In another step towards digitization, the university has been sending SMSs to students informing them about their examination details as well as their their admit cards, so that no relevant information is missed out.
IGNOU has set up about 1,034 examination centers, including 100 centers in jail for inmates. 23 of its centres are overseas. The examination process is vast; and over 6.2 lakhs students will appear in the exams. Two sessions have been scheduled for these exams i.e. Morning (10 AM to 1 PM) and Evening (2 PM to 5 PM).

It is estimated that the university will handle around 20 lakhs appearances during the entire examination period.
Besides paperless tickets, another important step toward digitization is the facility of ON-Demand Examination . These exams are in addition to the examinations which are conducted in the months of June and December.

An additional option available for students appearing in June 2017 is that they can appear for leftover papers in December 2017, given that their registration for that particular course is valid.
