Indira Gandhi National Open University - IGNOU is to start a certificate programme in the Korean language soon. The certificate course is open to candidates who have successfully passed 10+2 or equivalent examination and are above 18 years of age. The new course in the Korean language will be available in all regions and all IGNOU regional centres .
It is the only course in India which will be available in the Open and Distance Learning Mode-ODL Mode. The expertise on the course will be given by the Korean Embassy. Students who will enrol for the respective programme in the Korean Language will be provided with the study material for the same along with audio/visual study material so that students have a better understanding of the Korean language. The last date of application for the admission to IGNOU Korean language certificate course has been extended to August 31, 2018.

A group of representative from the Korean Embassy visited IGNOU for a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, S B Arora. Mr. Kim Kum Pyoung, Director of Korean Culture Centre India expressed his happiness towards this association and the support University has extended towards the development of the Korean language in India.

According to Mr. Shivaji Bhaskar, Coordination of the Programme stated that the relation between India and the Republic of Korea is unique in nature as it is more than 2 millennia old. This association between the two will lead to the social, political and economic development of both the countries. At present, there are thousands of Indian employees working in Korean companies like Hyundai and Samsung which is one of the reasons that the programme would be very successful in India.
