Indira Gandhi National Open University has introduced a certificate programme in Peace Studies and Conflict Management for pan India Jail inmates. The new course by IGNOU was launched to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. IGNOU has launched the new course in association with Darshan Smriti and Gandhi Smriti.
The new certificate programme will help jail inmates to address their issues in a right way and to become better citizens once they go back to their normal life.
The event where the course was launched was attended by many honourable guests including Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor IGNOU, MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe among others at the Gandhi Smriti.

MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe addressed the audience and advised the varsity to make suitable use of the phrase conflict i.e. to channelise it in a positive manner. He also added that the main agenda of the programme is confluence and cohesion creation. According to him, this will help in a smooth transition of jail inmates once they go out.

Prof Nageshwar Rao also addressed the event and thanked Darshan Smriti and Gandhi Smriti on behalf of IGNOU regarding the launch of the new course. He also informed that the new course will be free of cost for the jail inmates which will help them live a better mainstream life once they go out. According to him, they should not be considered as a liability of the country.
