Beginning from January 2018, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will implement fee waiver scheme for the students belonging to SC and ST categories. Earlier, the varsity took a historic decision by exempting fees to transgender students . Last year, fee waiver for SC/ST was implemented to six certificate courses offered by IGNOU.
The fee waiver scheme for SC/ ST students will be applicable for certificate courses, one-year diploma courses and all graduate & post graduate courses including, bachelors of library education, science , tourism , commerce, arts , education , social work and computer education.
SC/ST students can seek admission in offline mode without the payment of admission fees. However, SC/ST students applying online will have to deposit or pay the fee. The varsity will reimburse the fee after the confirmation of admission. Similarly, the fee will also be reimbursed to the students seeking admission in the second and third year of the course.

For applying offline, students can visit the respective study/ regional centres and obtain the application form. After filling the application form, it is mandatory to affix the caste certificate and mark sheets (Xerox copies). Send the application form to the respective study/ regional centre by July 15, 2018, for UG and PG courses. Online admissions will also close on the same date. However, June 30, 2018, is the last date to register for certificate, diploma and postgraduate diploma courses.

IGNOU has directed the study and regional centres to popularise the fee waive scheme to SC/ ST students, particularly in rural areas.
