The application process for MA degree course in Women and Gender Studies at IGNOU has now commenced. The specialized course is a part of the School of Gender and Development Studies (SOGDS) at IGNOU and was started in the year 2013. The prime focus of the course is to examine gender roles and issues from an academic perspective and to explore various analytical and critical aspects across various fields in the areas of women’s and gender studies.
Candidates from all discipline with an interest in this field can apply for the course, provided they have completed graduation (any stream). The last date to submit the fees for the course is December 31, 2018.

IGNOU M.A. in Women's & Gender Studies Eligibility:
- Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in any field.
- Candidate with theoretical and analytical knowledge in the areas of women’s and gender studies will be preferred.
The programme mainly focuses on developing the analytical and observatory skills in candidates across various disciplines from a gender perspective. It is a two-year programme divided into 64 credits and comprises of eight courses and a compulsory project work.

The courses are intended to equip students with foundational as well as advanced knowledge in a chosen area to prepare them for relevant employment opportunities later on. This is a modular programme and candidates can exit the course after the first year after which they will be awarded a PG Diploma in Women’s & Gender Studies. If, however, they choose to continue they will be awarded the M.A after completion of 2 years of coursework.
After pursuing M.A. in Women’s & Gender Studies there are various career options and relevant opportunities available for candidates. There are ample job opportunities available in NGOs, government agencies, schools, counselling, journalism, content, publishing house, and others. Candidates employed in the public sector, NGOs, counselling, law etc can also pursue this course for enhancing their skills and for better career opportunities in the respective field.
