Indira Gandhi National Open University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Human Rights Commission to develop and update the existing course on Human Rights for police personnel. IGNOU aspirants and students can now look forward to a new advanced programme on human rights. IGNOU and NHRC will develop the programme to generate awareness among the police personnel, parliamentarians, public servants, judiciary, common people, colleges and universities. Joint Secretary to NHRC and Registrar of IGNOU signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

SWAYAM portal and Inter University Consortium platform of IGNOU will be used for disseminating information on Human Rights. The regional centres of IGNOU will also play a crucial role in spreading awareness on Human Rights education. NHRC and IGNOU will develop the material in the form of printed book as well as an e-book.
NHRC and IGNOU will also update the six units of the existing programme on Human Rights for police personnel and e-content which will be made available on the official student’s portal of IGNOU. The major aim of the varsity with regard to Human Rights programme is to simplify the subject by using interactive and multimedia tools.

On July 30, 2017, IGNOU has extended the dates for the admission to UG, PG, Diploma and PG Diploma courses for the academic session 2017-18. Interested students can apply for various programmes on or before August 18, 2017. However, the varsity closed the application process for Certificate programmes.
