Prermier open university of the country Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has entered into an agreement with Doordarshan for transmission of four Gyan Darshan educational channels.The channel ran successfully until 2nd June 2014. However, later it was shut down by ISRO, as its transmission was shifted from INSAT 3C to GSAT-10.

For telecasting Gyan Darshan Channels, IGNOU now needs to apply for a fresh license. Under the Downlinking and Uplinking Guidelines of the I&B Ministry, it is not eligible for the grant of a license.
An official statement from the university said that IGNOU requested Doordarshan to apply for the permissions for the Gyan Darshan channels. Through this agreement , Doordarshan has affirmed to the request of IGNOU. Now IGNOU will apply for obtaining the necessary license and permissions that are required for the telecast of Gyan Darshan channels. It will be telecast from IGNOU Earth Station, Delhi through GSAT-10.

Doordarshan's Director General Supriya Sahu said this partnership would benefit million of students as it will go tp very far off areas across the country. Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Prof Ravindra Kumar also appreciated and thanked DD for supporting the University in reviving Gyan Darshan.
