In a move to keep the pace with changing digital age Indira Gandhi national Open University popularly known as IGNOU is reactivating its popular educational resource portal eGyanKosh.
The university has taken a decision to reactivate the portal on an ‘as-is-where-is basis’. IGNOU initiated the development of a knowledge repository named e-GyanKosh (www.egyankosh.ac.in) in October, 2005, to store, index, preserve, distribute and share the digital learning resources developed by the open and distance learning (ODL) institutions in the country.
Self-instructional print material for around 2,565 courses (comprising more than 40,000 course modules) and 2,389 video programmes of Ignou have been digitised and uploaded on the repository.
After its public launch in June 9, 2008, the site received more than 20 lakh hits, and had more than 1,000 visits per day from all over the world. There were more than three lakh active registered users of the repository as last reported.
