- School of Education of IGNOU has signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with the government of Tripura.
- IGNOU will impart training in a phased manner and 100 students will be enrolled per programme study centre.
Continuing the trend of initiating various schemes and programmes, Indira Gandhi National Open University, also known as IGNOU has come up with a new initiative of imparting training to 11,884 elementary teachers in Tripura. The premier Open University will impart specialised training through its two-year diploma programme in elementary education. The course will be offered in an open and distance learning mode. For this purpose, School of Education of IGNOU has signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with the government of Tripura. The MoC will be renewed every three years. Tripura’s SCERT or State Council for Education Research & Training and Registrar of IGNOU signed the MoC.

According to an official information, IGNOU will only impart training to those teachers who possess the required qualification as per the norms prescribed by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Apart from that, these teachers should also be working in government schools. The varsity also provides relaxation of marks to the teachers belonging to a reserved category.
Through this collaboration, IGNOU and the state government of Tripura will come up with a context specific block on elementary education in Tripura. The main objective will be to acquaint the teachers with the dimensions of elementary education.

IGNOU will impart training in a phased manner. 100 students will be enrolled per programme study centre. School of Education of IGNOU has come up with a framework of the programme which will be referred to in the entire process.
The registration process for various UG, PG and PGD programmes offered by IGNOU closes on August 18, 2017.
