IIIT-Hyderabad director Prof PJ Narayanan said that conducting online examination would be tricky. So, the students’ evaluation on the basis of hands-on application of concepts would be less stressful for students, though it would be challenging for teachers. Undesirable sharing is possible for such work, but the institute has adopted it.
He further said that it is good to not obsess too much for the possible violation as long as students get benefitted from it.
The institute has decided to award ‘W’ (Withdraw) grade to students instead of ‘F’ (Fail) grade. A, B, C and W grades will now be awarded to students. Grade D has been eliminated. The students will have an option to keep A/B/C grade or replace it with P (Pass) grade.
However, the three-lab dominated course offer at IIIT-Hyderabad will be completed only after the institute reopens, as it requires the physical presence of students.

Prof. Narayanan further added that students who will not be able to participate in the online courses meaningfully due to poor internet connectivity, sickness of self, family etc will be evaluated separated when the institute will reopen. Alternate evaluation, grading methods and assignments, projects, oral examinations, reports, etc. will be considered as a means of evaluation for such students. They will not face any disadvantage in any situation.
