Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, for the first time, awarded MBA degrees to the 2017-19 batch at the 54th convocation ceremony. The institute decided to provide MBA degrees to PGP students of 2017-19 batch under the new IIM Act. The new IIM Act lets IIMs decide whether to award diplomas or degrees.
This move will help boost quality education. Granting MBA degrees to the students will benefit the institute as they will be able to compare their standards to international B-schools offering MBA degree. It will also result in better competition and a good quality of education.
Awarding MBA degree to the IIM-A students will make the process of academic recognition easier. Students planning to pursue higher education abroad will be able to do it easily as the MBA degree is recognised worldwide as compared to PGDM diploma which has not been so popular.
