The Common Admission Test (CAT) is the most popular and most widely accepted MBA entrance exam in India . It is conducted for admission to the flagship Post Graduate Programmes (PGP) offered by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) and the MBA and PGDM courses offered by thousands of other MBA colleges in India . Every year one of the IIMs conducts CAT and chooses a Convenor who is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the exam.
IIM-A to be the Conducting Body for CAT 2021
This year, it has been confirmed that the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad , the No. 1 MBA college in India as per NIRF 2020 MBA Rankings , will be in charge of conducting CAT 2021. IIMA is expected to release the official notification for CAT 2021 in the last week of July and the application process may begin in the 1st week of August 2021. Going by the previous year's trends, the expected exam date of CAT 2021 is November 28, 2021 (Sunday).

IIM-A Announces CAT Convenor
The institute has announced that Prof. M P Ram Mohan, the Faculty of Business Policy and Chairperson Admissions at IIM Ahmedabad will be the Convenor for CAT 2021. He is also reported to be a law expert and is an Associate Professor of Strategy Area at the institute. Prof Mohan has also been the President of the Nuclear Law Association of India since 2012.
IIM-A Last Conducted CAT in 2015
The last time IIMA conducted CAT was in 2015 when it introduced several significant changes in the exam, which have remained unaffected since then except for the changes introduced by IIM Indore last year due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. Students may expect to see some tweaks to the CAT exam pattern this year.
Changes Introduced to CAT by IIM-A in 2015
The CAT Exam Pattern that most of the students are familiar with today was introduced by IIM-A in 2015. These include:
Increase in the number of sections from 2 with 50 questions each to 3 sections with 34 questions in two sections and 32 in one.
Separate Data Interpretation section from Quantitative Ability and introduction of the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) section.
Introduction of the Non-MCQs or Type In The Answer (TITA) type questions.
