Indian Institute of Management, Amritsar organized its first convocation ceremony on April 24, 2017. The chief guest for the convocation ceremony was Prof. Bibek Debroy, a member of NITI Aayog. The convocation ceremony was held at the temporary campus of IIM Amritsar, i.e., at the Government Polytechnic College.
Delivering the convocation address, Prof. Bibek Debroy emphasized that the significance of entrepreneurship for the youth of India. He further elaborated that Startup India and Make in India are two initiatives of Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi that are playing a significant role in developing entrepreneurial skills among the students. These initiatives also encourage the students to incubate new ideas or setup startups. Prof. Bibek Debroy also congratulated the graduating class of 2017.

On this occasion, Mentor Director of IIM Amritsar, Prof. Kulbhushan Balooni presented the report on the immense growth of the institute in the past two years. He also congratulated the graduating students and wished them a bright future.
Addressing the students, Chairperson of IIM Amritsar and Secretary of Department of Higher Education, HRD Ministry, Mr. Kewal Kumar Sharma expressed that the aim of the government and HRD Ministry is to realize the potential of human resources in India fully and with equity in excellence.

He further explained that the government is establishing new high-quality educational institutions and expanding access to higher education. The government is also providing greater opportunities to all the eligible candidates.
During the convocation ceremony, a total number of 44 students were awarded PGP diplomas. The institute also awarded a gold medal for scholastic performance to Himshikha. Mr. Darshan Sharma received a gold medal for overall performance.
