Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore has set up the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) with a motive to develop/ improve the learning abilities of students and teaching effectiveness of faculty members. The inaugural ceremony of CTL took place on January 15, 2018.
Chairperson of CTL and Dean of Academic Programmes, Mr. Sourav Mukherji revealed that the centre was set up in collaboration with popular and leading centres across the world. The centre will involve in-depth research and pedagogy related activities like education and learning. Before setting up the centre, the people associated with CTL had visited eight centres of learning in universities across the globe. CTL at IIM Bangalore is esteemed to borrow the best practices from them, he highlighted.

Centre for Teaching and Learning at IIM Bangalore will play a principal role in providing teaching inputs to doctoral students and faculty members. Apart from these, the centre will enable the development of teaching content, figuring out measures to evaluate learning and teaching performance and research on innovation pertaining to pedagogy / education.
With a motive to elevate the overall standards of teaching in management institutes, CTL will organise workshops and open programmes for doctoral students, faculty members and aspiring faculty. The outreach programmes of CTL will act as a national resource for developing the standards of teaching in higher learning institutes.

The CTL at IIM Bangalore will start functioning in a full-fledged manner during the second half of the year. Besides carrying out research by involving pedagogical experts, CTL will assign great teachers and professionals as mentors. As of now, CTL is only restricted to management education , and it may become relevant to any discipline in higher education soon.
