The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) has admitted the highest number of women candidates ever in the batch of 2017-19.
IIM Calcutta has seen a two-fold rise in the number of women students joining the PGDM batch this year. The female force of 31 percent has been registered in the batch of 2017. This is the highest representation of the number of women students ever seen by the Indian Institute of Management including its branch, IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad in the recent times.

Pritam Basu, the admission chairperson of IIMC said that the performance of the girls was incredibly good in the interview round and made them get through on their own steam. However, Basu accepted that they did push the female candidates to get in the pre-interview round where they were marked two marks more after the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2017 scores.
Basu while informing about the change in markup policy, he said that previously the female candidates were granted three extra points out of hundred marks, but this year they were given two extra marks out of fifty marks to accommodate more gender diversity on the campus.
An IIMC official explaining the reason for the slight change in markup policy revealed that for the past few years, the women representation has been 20 to 22 percent, but last year, the institute saw a sharp drop to 16.4 percent. Acknowledging this drop, the authorities decided to re-draw the markup plan this year.
