IIM Calcutta's executive programme in Operations management will begin from September 17, 2019. This course is for the working managers and looks at equipping the managers with the operation management concepts in services and manufacturing sectors. It will have a duration of 1 year and will take place online, having a duration of 3 hours, the classes for which will be held once a week on Saturdays. Each course will be taught using case studies, analytical tools and live corporate examples. Some of the topics the curriculum will include are Project and Programme Management, Analytics and Management Sciences etc.

Operations managers have many varied tasks to perform and mainly it includes ensuring the effective production and distribution of services and resources. As per a report by PwC on Industrial Manufacturing, a need for operations management is also prevalent in the industrial manufacturing sector as it is a major growth sector for the economy. It has varied companies such as those which are employed in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, building and construction material, electrical and metal products etc. Operations management has an integral role to play in every company as it helps seamlessly execute plans.
Prof Partha Priya Datta, the Programme Director at IIM Calcutta said that with this course, they aim to bring about quality education for the working executives who are into operations management. The curriculum of this course has been designed in such a manner that it meets the needs of the industry through a multidisciplinary approach and also through the usage of different management science practices and tools.

Prof. Peeyush Mehta, the programme director stated that this course will look at the systems that have an impact on a firm’s operation and this will be done through an in-depth analysis of various kinds of service operations and production. Then, the operational planning and control systems will also be reviewed which can help in increasing the competitiveness of the organisations. The aim of the course is to help with the analytical understanding regarding the role of production and operations management in companies’ success.
