The Indian Insitute of Management (IIM), Calcutta will be starting classes for its incoming MBA batch of 2020-22 from 10 August. The classes have been shifted online and will include a total of 480 students from across the country. This information was available in a statement released by the institute. The statement also said that the classes for the 2nd year MBA students have also been shifted online and will commence from 3 August.
The admission process of IIM Calcutta had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The institute was quick to shift the interviews online and the institute did not consider WAT scores of candidates in the final selection. The reopening of classes brings good news for students who had taken admission to the premier institute. This move will help them avoid any more loss of study time. The students of the incoming batch will be welcomed in a Fresher's Welcome Function, which will also be conducted online on 8 August 2020.

IIM Calcutta Director, Prof Anju Seth said that this bears testimony to their academic excellence and a track record of bringing together the best faculty and students every year for an exceptional on-campus experience. However, due to COVID-19, this has been a challenging time but the institute has decided to reopen in the online mode to sustain their academic rigour.
The institute has planned well to make sure that the students’ learning is not affected and it has moved to digital delivery of the course content. The professors are using ‘beyond the blackboard’ methods to make sure that the students do not miss out when it comes to active class participation. Digital innovation is currently the trend due to COVID-19 as many institutes have launched new online programs digitally and more institutes are expected to follow suit.
