In a bid to integrate technology in the dispersal of education, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) has planned to introduce two online certificate courses in ‘Management Sciences’ and ‘Supply Chain Analytics’. The Business School has come into a partnership with the Global Online Learning Platform, Coursera, through which the institute will be able to offer the course online at a Global level.
Anju Set, the Director of IIM Calcutta stated that the partnership will allow the institute to meet its aim of using technology to offer education in management as well as increase their standing among aspirants at the global level.
The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta has now become one of the 170 colleges and universities that have partnered up with Coursera to provide students with Online certificate courses. Among the top universities that are included in the list involve Yale, Imperial College of London, University of Michigan, Stanford and many more.
The IIM officials state that the objective of the certificate courses is to assist aspirants in learning the crucial skills needed for the successful operation of businesses. The course will allow the students to take part in different industry case studies that will help them understand the importance of data-driven processes of decision-making. The course will also allow the aspirants to learn how to analyse data to come up with solutions for real-world issues and to inform actions, develop computational and mathematical models.

The students who pursue the programme will be able to learn the different programming models through various hands-on practicals and projects. They aim to help the students to witness the applications in industries such as manufacturing, distribution, transportation, agriculture, finance, health and many others.

The CEO of Corsera, Jeff Maggioncalda stated that there are many institutions in India that provide top-notch education globally. However, due to the lack of seats in the on-campus programmes, restrict the number of aspirants who can pursue the programme of their choice, he added. Further, he stated that one of the major objectives behind the partnership is to allow aspirants from India and abroad to pursue the programmes from IIM Calcutta.
