The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Jammu, has recognised the Chartered Accounting (CA) qualification of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) as equivalent to a master's degree. CA. Prafulla P. Chhajed, President of ICAI informed that the Indian Institute of Management, Jammu (IIM, Jammu) has now recognised the Chartered Accountancy qualification as equivalent to the Master degree for the purpose of pursuing a PhD degree at IIM, Jammu.
The president also said there are 7 IIMs, 2 IIT and 104 Universities (Bombay and Madras) (Total 113 Institutions/ Universities) have also recognised Chartered Accountancy degree for pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) programme.

Patna University, Visvesvaraya Technological University of Belagavi, Karnataka has also allowed admission to the Phd Degree on the basis of Chartered Accountancy qualification. They have now started to treat the Chartered Accountancy qualification as equivalent to their Master degree which opens avenues for admission into the PhD program. Thus, Around 6 IIMs, 103 Universities and 2 IIT’s (111 Institutions in Total) have recognised the CA Qualification to pursue the PHD programme.

ICAI's Chartered Accountancy course is accepted and recognised both from academic and professional perspectives in the country as well as globally. While on one hand, ICAI is continuously entering new MOUs and MRAs with global and international accounting bodies with our CA certification being recognised abroad. The decision of making Chartered Accounting (CA) qualification eligible to get admission in PhD will now allow the commerce students to enrol for the doctoral program.
