IIM Kozhikode (Indian Institute of Management) is the first premier management institute in India to appoint its own Director autonomously. The IIM Bill that was approved by Parliament of India earlier has empowered IIMs to appoint Directors autonomously without any role of the government.
IIM Kozhikode’s BoG has appointed Mr. Debashis Chatterjee as the Director for the second time. The premier institute has been functioning without a Director since 2014. Mr. Chatterjee held the position of Director from 2009 – 2014. After his tenure, the government did not take further steps to appoint a regular Director. Professor K. Balooni was been serving as Director-In-Charge of IIM Kozhikode so far. Now, Mr. Debashis Chatterjee will hold the position for the tenure of five years.

During his previous tenure, Mr. Chatterjee encouraged gender diversity on the campus by enrolling more than 50% women students in PG management course. Among all the IIMs, IIM Kozhikode was the first institute to offer admission to 50% women students.
Professor Chatterjee has also been serving as Dean and Senior Professor (International Relations) at IIM Lucknow . At present, he is serving as the Director of IMI Delhi .

Professor Debashis Chatterjee taught leadership classes at Harvard University, IIM Lucknow , IIM Calcutta and IIM Kozhikode. For his Pre-Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Work at Harvard University, Professor Chatterjee was awarded Fulbright Fellowship twice.
Professor Debashis authored 17 books including Timeless Leadership and Invincible Arjuna . He also served as the Independent Director on the Boards of several national and multinational companies.
