The Ph.D. course in Indian Institute of Management - IIM Kozhikode will help working executives by providing a chance to research in the field of Management Practice-Track in IIM Kozhikode.
Mr. Debasish Chatterjee, the Director of IIM Kozhikode says that this is the only Ph.D. course in management that will offer industry-specific specialisations available to be chosen by the aspirants. There will be specialised Ph.D. courses in fields such as Banking, FMCG, Retail or Manufacturing which are a bit different from the tradition specialisations which the applicants can choose as per their field and convenience.
Chatterjee also said that the aspirants coming to take up this course are motivated to become scholars if not a full-time academician. The aspirants are coming to take the course to feed their own hunger for knowledge and curiosity.
The candidates will not have to quit their jobs to take up the course in IIM Kozhikode. They will also be given chances to conduct various research works with the faculties of the Institute for contributing to academic at a global level. It will also include industry collaborations for the students with management development programme and industry consulting programmes. The program will contribute to the deeper understanding of industrial practices among the students and will also contribute to developing real-world problem-solving skills in managerial roles.
Chatterjee has expressed that the flexibility of the programs that can be done anytime between 3 to 5 years after joining the programme will help aspirants to conduct the research work as per their convenience without having to leave his/her organisation. Only three short visits to the campus are required to conduct the Ph.D. programmes. The visits can be manually scheduled and the research scholar can conduct his/her work independently which is the plus point of the course and its flexibility.

The Practice-Track program is expected to generate such research papers that can be a part of elusive case study books or research journals later on. The institute has said that the programme can give an aspirant a new outlook on their career and open many doors for them.
