Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIMK) has decided to offer MBA in LIberal Studies from the upcoming academic year. IIMK will be the first business school in India to take an initiative like this and the aim behind this is to include the students from liberal studies and management into the managerial workforce.
IIMK director, Prof Debashis Chatterjee states that while the management studies primarily focus on instilling scientific methods to find out the facts about the environment, the future managers require much more than just scientific learning and teaching methods. In context to it, he further added that the new postgraduate program in the liberal studies will allow the future managers in India to not only enhance their learning in terms of intelligence, emotion, and culture, but also in terms of creativity.

The students of the new program will be able to get the admission after cleaing some personalised tests and interview sessions. To be eligible for the program, the student needs to have an undergraduate degree, with social science and humanity being the major factors for assessment. The students pursuing the program can get placed in firms related to entertainment, media, advertisement, non-government and private academic institutions.

A new postgraduate program, Masters of Science in Finance (MSF) has also been introduced by IIMK which is aimed towards enhancing the skills and expertise of students in the finance sector. The program will be of 2 years’ duration and will integrate the technology and big data aimed to meet the significant transformations in the financial sector.
