IIM Kozhikode has rolled back its recent decision to issue graduation certificates in the Hindi language . Various sections of students and faculty members expressed their displeasure and disappointment with the institute’s decision to issue graduation certificates in Hindi.
Earlier, the premier institute issued circular directing students to provide their names in Hindi by March 01, 2018. The institute’s plan was to print the names of students in Hindi on the PGP certificate that will be issued during the convocation ceremony . The circular also advised the students to contact the PGP office or take the help of their friends if they do not know how to write their names in Hindi. Even though the institute set the deadline to provide names in Hindi, many students had not given their names.

So far, IIM Kozhikode has been issuing PGP certificates in English . The premier institute planned to issue certificate both in English and Hindi. However, many students termed the decision of IIM Kozhikode as a move to promote Hindi over other languages in the country.

Last week, Director-In-Charge of IIM Kozhikode , Professor Kulbhushan Balooni clarified that there would be no change in the language in which certificates are issued. The PGP certificates will be issued in English only, he highlighted.
Earlier, IIM Bangalore also took the similar decision to issue PGP certificates in Hindi . After receiving opposition from the students, the institute rolled back the decision.
IIM Kozhikode’s convocation ceremony is scheduled to take place in April 2018.
