IIM Sambalpur is getting ready to conduct the end-term exam for the first-year students by making use of an online proctoring system. It will be the first to conduct the exam via digital methods. This decision has been taken as a major chunk of the students of the 2019-2021 batch have left the campus before the exams due to the COVID-19 lockdown which has been going on since March 2020. Many educational institutes across India have been shut to contain the spread of the virus.
Students will be able to appear for the exams by logging in through their desktops or laptops from their homes in different parts of the nation. Roughly, 100 students are expected to write the term-end exam for at least 10-12 subjects.

The interface, which will be used to conduct the exam will also look at the retina movement of examinees and will capture it. To make sure that cheating doesn’t occur, the exam will be disrupted even if the examinee attends a phone call. Buffer time will be given to the students who will have to face internet disruptions during the exam.
This method of conducting tests online will lead to more transparency in the process. Also, with the use of Artificial Intelligence, (AI) , there will be no scope for human error during the exam invigilation. No paper will be wasted and the answer scripts can be sent to the visiting faculties who are sitting at their homes online for checking quickly rather than sending the answer sheets through the post. IIM Sambalpur also plans to continue this process of conducting exams even after the lockdown ends.
