Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur . IIM Sambalpur is one of the seven 3rd-generation Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) that were set up in 2015. IIM Sambalpur has been operating from a temporary campus for the last years but work has finally begun on its permanent campus.

During the foundation stone laying ceremony, PM Modi said that the permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur will give a new identity to Odisha and also praised the role of innovation, integrity and inclusion in the field of management. Ganeshi Lal, the Governor of Odisha, CM Patnaik and Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal were also present at the event. PM Modi also talked about the growing culture of startups in the country and the role of management graduates in taking them to new heights.
IIM Sambalpur is a fast-growing new IIM that currently offers the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive MBA courses apart from MDP, PhD and Executive PhD courses. The institute granted admission to its first batch in 2015 and currently has the highest gender diversity score with 49% girl students in the 2019-21 batch and 43% in the 2020-23 batch of its MBA course.
