Indian Institute of Management(IIM), Sambalpur has announced a nine-month program on ‘experiential innovation’ for the first-year students. The college is one of the third generation IIMs in the country. The main objective of the program is to promote learning from experience rather than books.
Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director, IIM-Sambalpur has said that even though they do not have high alumni-base or good infrastructure as compared to other IIM’s, they will work on providing a new structure which will add some value to the program. The program will cover design thinking in the first three months of the program and then the students will work on a project which will focus on the problems affecting the local people in healthcare and education. Students will then have to implement their learning into the project and see the impact.

It is always important to have more experiential learning in managerial education. The two important things which the candidates must keep in mind while working for any organisation are “creating a business” or “solving a problem”. Jaiswal also said that this nine-month program will help the students to work on these two things. Presently, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sambalpur is operating from a temporary location at the University of Sambalpur.
