In the previous year, the Indian Institute of Management - IIM Sambalpur witnessed zero female students admission and this year, surprisingly the institute has reported over 50% girl student admissions in the college which is a landmark. The 50% girl admission in an IIm have not been witnessed ever in the premier level IIMs such as IIM Bangalore , IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Calcutta . The institute reported that 52 girls have applied for admissions in IIM Sambalpur out of 98 total applications. The commencement ceremony of the previous batch was however conducted on 1st July 2019, Monday.
The IIM Sambalpur director Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal said that no other IIM in the country ever saw 50% girl student participation in the application process. The number of girls taking admission in IIM Sambalpur is highest among the country.
While talking about the reasons behind this achievement, Prof. Jaiswal cited that the prime reasons are, the growing reputation of the institute and good placement records. The admission process in IIM Sambalpur is set to be continued till 6th July.
Prof. Jaiswal expressed that many people put their concerns as Sambalpur cannot be an ideal location for an institute like IIM but with continuous endeavours of betterment and development, the students in increased numbers, especially girls are seeking admissions in IIM Sambalpur in a large scale.
The IIM Sambalpur has recently introduced relaxation in the cutoffs of girl students. This played as an important factor for the girls’ admissions in the institute. For the male students, the cutoff rates are 95% and for the girls, the cutoff is set at 90%.

One student who enrolled herself in IIM Sambalpur after completing graduation in economics from Fergusson College, Pune, named Samrudhi Kangude said that the IIM Sambalpur has outstanding placement records from last 3 years consecutively. She informed that the good faculties are also a reason for taking admissions in the institute.
P Raghavendra, the President of Refinery Business in Reliance Industries Limited, the IIM Sambalpur director Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal and Deepak Behera, who is the vice-chancellor of Sambalpur University, Odisha addressed the students on the inaugural orientation day at IIM Sambalpur.
