The pass out post graduates of Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, Shillong were urged by the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani to remember their roots while pursuing their dreams.
While addressing the seventh Convocation of IIM, Shillong, Irani deeply appreciated the parents who had send their children to the institute while facing many challenges and asked the graduates to be grateful to them and also to keep in touch with the institute.
According to her the institute has empowered the students with tremendous knowledge and asked them to live up to the aspirations of the former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who wanted to be a constructive human being and make this planet into a liveable planet.
She also urged the students that while many job opportunities awaited them they should not shy away from the responsibility of nation building and that too without compromising on their principles.
The Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIM Shillong, while speaking on the occasion said that the records revealed that the students of the institute were the best in the country and the most sought after by the best companies and organizations. He further stated, "In the process they have not only brought laurels to themselves and the institution, but also to the country."
He said, "As you enter the busy world of business and commerce, please be conscious of your role as responsible citizens of this country and be committed to the welfare of the people, especially the poor, the downtrodden and the weak."
The Director of IIM, Shillong Prof Amitabh De, in his welcome address, congratulated the students of Post Graduate (2014-16) and Post Graduate Post Executives (PGPEx) 2014-15 batch and said that the institute has provided them holistic learning and sustainable development.
