The first convocation ceremony of IIM or Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur was held on April 8, 2017. Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shri. Virbhadra Singh was the chief guest for the event. Addressing the students, he said that the management graduates have to focus more on the development of hilly and rural areas. The management graduates need to play a significant role in uplifting the privileged classes of the society, he added

Mr. Virbhadra Singh also indicated that the management graduates shall work towards the expansion and growth of economic activities in rural and hilly areas and simultaneously figure out solutions for complex issues. The skills of the management graduates will be put to test this way, and each one will learn a lot from the same. The students can work towards achieving sustainable development in these regions as well.

He also explained that India and China have emerged as major economies in the world that resulted in the increase of business opportunities and requirement of capable managers. He advised the faculty of Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur to have an inclusive and a much broader view of the management needs of the country. If the faculty develops the inclusive view, it will not only address the challenges in the industry but also contribute towards the development of the country.
He pointed that the state government played a crucial role in the establishment of these premier institutions by providing land free of cost. The state government is also taking effective steps for the development of these institutions.
