IIM Visakhapatnam is hopeful of moving to permanent campus by 2021. Currently, the premier institute is functioning through a makeshift campus at Andhra University . The state government of Andhra Pradesh has allocated 240 acres of land in Gambheeram area at Vizag to set up its own campus. The construction of boundary wall has been completed while the construction of the building is expected to begin next year.

Director of IIM Vizag, Professor M Chandrasekhar revealed that efforts are being taken for the possession of land by the end of March. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and is under the review of the Expenditure Finance Committee . The government has allocated Rs. 700 crore for capital expenditure and Rs. 500 crore for recurring expenditure. If everything materialises as per the detailed plan of IIM Vizag, the finalisation of campus design will be completed by the end of this year. If the construction works begin in 2019, the new campus is expected to be operational from 2021, he added.

Adding further, Professor Chandrasekhar mentioned that 100 acres out of 240 acres of allotted land could be used immediately for construction. Primarily, the construction of academic and administration blocks will be completed. The construction of hostels and other facilities will be completed in the next phase, he concluded.
The current intake of IIM Vizag is 60 while the proposal to increase it to 100 is under consideration. The second batch of PGP students at IIM Vizag will be graduating this summer.
