On of the premier media institutes of India, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has announced that it has joined Gooogle News Lab University Network to familiarize students about various Google tools such as Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Trends and Google Search. Currently, 46 communication schools across the world are the members of the network.

Nicholas Whitaker, Training and Development Manager at Google News Lab also mentioned about the collaboration of IIMC on the official website. The association will enable individual training as well as provide with online training materials which will support the students and professors on carrying out classes on various topics ranging from Google tool fundamentals, data journalism, data visualisation, immersive storytelling, trust and verification, advanced search and Google trends.
Director General of IIMC, Mr. Suresh explained that there is a need to bring awareness regarding digital tools among the budding journalists. The collaboration will help the students to face various challenges in media landscape through skill-oriented training. He expressed that the institute is privileged to be a part of Google News Lab University Network.

Currently, the Network includes three media schools in India and Hong Kong, 12 in Europe, 27 in the United States and one in Mexico.
Recently, IIMC has announced that it would offer Journalism courses in regional languages as well as vernacular languages. The institute is working consistently to bring back the objectivity to media. K.G Suresh also indicated that it is time to give importance to traditional journalism at par with electronic media.
