Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, inaugurated the Postgraduate Diploma course in Urdu Journalism at Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi on January 17, 2017. IIMC offers journalism course in regional languages, and Urdu Journalism has been changed into a full-fledged PGD course. He also re-launched IIMC Journal 'Communicator'.

On this occasion, Venkaiah Naidu spoke about changing trends in communication. He indicated that social media is playing a vital role in the field of communication and it has broken the boundaries of space and time in communication. Therefore, budding journalists must be social savvy, and it is important for them to have a watchful eye over public perception on issues of local as well as international importance.

He further explained that Urdu is a language which played an important role during the freedom struggle. He praised IIMC for launching PGD in Urdu Journalism which is an integral part of communication and media.
Speaking about re-launching the IIMC Journal 'Communicator', the minister pointed that the Journal will be useful to media practitioners, research scholars and academicians as a platform to publish their research papers, case studies as well as articles which are related to the field of mass communication. He concluded that exchange of ideas will provide a basis for the development of communication in the coming years.
IIMC Journal 'Communicator' was initially published in the year 1965 and it is regarded as the oldest journals in the field of mass communication. Initially, it was a quarterly Journal, and later it became a yearly Journal.
