IISc Bangalore to Launch Drone Manufacturing, Robotic Courses

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will be adding another course to its curriculum from July 2019. This new course is on Artificial Intelligence and is named Advanced Manufacturing Programme.

IISc Bangalore to Launch Drone Manufacturing, Robotic Courses

Those who are interested in learning about making walking robots, manufacturing drones and more such things about artificial intelligence have the opportunity to learn about these things from the new course that is being started at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore.

The name of the course is 'Advanced Manufacturing Programme' and it is a part of the IISc’s Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (CPDM). The programme will commence in the month of July in 2019 and it is a collaborative effort of CPDM with Centre for Sustainable Technologies, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation and Applied Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Management Studies departments of the Indian Institute of Science and Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems.

IISc has called for tenders on Thursday for the programme for setting up a Digital Factory at the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing. Before the construction of the Digital Factory’s physical setup begins, IISc will be reviewing and accepting a virtual setup of the Digital Factory. Some of the major features of the Digital Factory will include smart dip manufacturing, drone manufacturing, DC motor assembly, etc.

The new artificial intelligence programme will offer two courses to the students- Masters in Technology (M.Tech) in Smart Manufacturing and Masters in Technology (Research) and Ph.D (Doctorate) in Advanced Manufacturing.

As per a professor from the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing, the former course is a two years long interdisciplinary masters’ programme that will be open for candidates who have the degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) , Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) or any other equivalent degree from any discipline or stream (with a valid score of GATE).

A total of twenty-five students will be shortlisted for it on the basis of the GATE score and performance in the interview. For applying to the course of M.Tech (Research) and Ph.D in Advanced Manufacturing, the candidates should have a B.Tech. B.E., or B.Des. degree or its equivalent in any discipline or stream or a degree of B.Arch. candidates who have a masters degree in Physiology, Computer Science, Masters in Computer Applications (MCA), Management , or graduates of science programmes can also apply for this course.
