The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore achieved another milestone by entering the top 10 club of the global university rankings. The Times Higher Education (THE) announced today that IISc Bangalore has been given the 8 th spot in the list of ‘Best Small Universities in the World 2017’.
This is the first time that the institute has been placed amongst the top 10 best small universities. Apart from IISc Bangalore, no other Indian institute or university has managed to get into the top 20 ranking.

In the 2016 rankings of Best Small Universities in the World, two Indian institutions had made it to the top 20 but no institute was ranked within the top 10. Universities having student strength less than 5000 are considered as small universities.
CalTech, United States of America, grabbed the first position in the list whereas Pohang University of Science and Technology, South Korea got the third place. Universities of France and Italy have secured three places among the top 10 Best Small Universities 2017 Rankings. The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences was ranked ninth.
Also, IISc Bangalore had entered the top 15 university rankings in the BRICS and Emerging Economies University Rankings 2017. India was given the second spot in a list of 300 top universities of the emerging economies. The list was topped by China.

IISc has been known for its achievements in the field of higher education and scientific research. It has constantly been placed with some of the elitist universities in the world for its enriched quality of education.
