Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) has decided to partially roll back the fee hike after massive protests from the student community who demanded it. Later, IIT Bombay directed the students to propose the fee structure for various programmes and other facilities. According to the fee structure submitted by the student community, the rollback is between 28-43% based on the category of student and programme of study.

On the other hand, the authorities of IIT Bombay clarified that there would be no further changes in the hiked fee under categories like hostel establishment charges, student accident insurance fund, water and electricity charges, hostel rent and exam fee.
A student revealed that the new fee structure will somehow aid the student community even though it is partial. Nonetheless, the administration of IIT Bombay took a positive step by involving students in revising the fee structure.
Since many students paid the hiked fee within the stipulated period, they have now been informed by the administration of IIT Bombay that the difference between hiked fees that was paid by them earlier this semester will be adjusted with the fees of the next semester.

In May 2017, the authorities of IIT Bombay introduced a fee hike for the new academic session which included a 167% hike in gymkhana fee, 300% hike in hostel rent, 100% hike in the examination, registration and medical charges. Students were of the opinion that the hike was arbitrary following which they launched a massive protest demanding the institute to roll back the fee hike.
