IIT Bombay Supports 160 Colleges in Setting Up their Own Entrepreneurship Cell

IIT Bombay Supports 160 Colleges in Setting Up their Own Entrepreneurship Cell

The Entrepreneurship Cell, also known as E-Cell of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has played a significant role in supporting 160 colleges across the country in setting up student-run organisations. All these colleges will now have an Entrepreneurship Cell on the lines of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The Entrepreneurship Cell at IIT Bombay is a student-run organisation, which plays a vital role in introducing students to start-up ecosystem. The E-Cell nurtures the entrepreneurial instincts of the students through workshops, investor interactions and workshops.

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has a unique start-up ecosystem, particularly because of Society of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) and E-Cell. Today, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and various educational institutes are trying to emulate the start-up ecosystem of IIT Bombay.

The Entrepreneurship Cell of IIT Bombay works towards spreading awareness through speaker sessions and workshops. Similarly, Society of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is an incubator that plays a vital role in mentoring the start-ups. Over the few years, the work that is being done by E-Cell and SINE is exceptional.

With an objective to have a better idea of the entrepreneurship trends aboard, E-Cell of IIT Bombay surveyed foreign universities. After the survey, E-Cell realised that there is a need to look beyond the boundaries of IIT Bombay by setting up functional E-Cells in various colleges across the country. Now, the E-Cell has been successful in setting up 160 similar E-Cells in over 80 cities including Jaipur, Indore and Mysore.

Now, IIT Bombay is conducting its fifth edition of National Entrepreneurship Challenge (NEC). With an objective to take part in the competition, each college has to set up an entrepreneurship cell with five students. E-Cell of IIT Bombay will assign the task to students, and these students must fulfil or complete the assigned task within five months. The best E-Cell will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 6 lakh and mentorship from IIT Bombay. The NEC will be launched on August 31, 2017, and IIT Bombay is expecting the participation of over 600 colleges.
