IIT Bombay to be a Part of China-led Universities Alliance

Promoting the "Asian values" in higher education, China on Saturday launched an Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) with the participation of the top 15 higher education institutions from different regions which include the Indian Institute of Technology.

Promoting the "Asian values" in higher education, China on Saturday launched an Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) with the participation of the top 15 higher education institutions from different regions which includes the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay from India.

The Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) is being backed by elite Tsinghua University in Beijing. It aims to encourage exchanges of teaching faculties and students across different universities in Asia. This will lead to promote joint research in a different range of areas.

Prasanna M. Mujumdar, the deputy director of IIT Bombay explained the purpose of joining the alliance. He revealed that though IIT Bombay has collaborated with a lot of international projects, but this alliance will help them focus on the universities of Asia in a lot of areas like faculty exchange, student mobility and joint research.

He added that collaborating with the Monash University, Australia had given students the opportunity to access wider education opportunities. They also received degrees which were signed by the presidents of both universities. He hopes that similar collaboration would be possible with other universities who are the member of this Asian alliance.

He also expressed his intention to build up very strong research groups with other universities. Since having the strength of two universities, the best of minds from both the sides, each have their own capabilities and expertise to contribute will lead to a joint bid for a research proposal.

Alliance partners include universities such as Peking University of Tokyo, Univesity in Beijing, Singapore National University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Seoul National University, University of Tokyo in Japan, Chulalongkorn University of Thailand, South Korea Seoul National University, University of Indonesia etc.
