Nagendra Reddy, student of IIT Chennai was found hanging in his hostel room Monday. After meeting his parents from his village in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, he found missing in the campus.
The 23 year old was pursuing Masters' degree was the only child of his father who is a farmer in Cuddapah village.
No suicide note has been found, say the police. The reason for taking his life is still unknown.
He had reportedly been offered a job by engineering conglomerate L&T, but he was looking for a government job instead.
"He came to visit us on Saturday and returned to Chennai on Monday. He never told us about any pressure," Mr Reddy said.
"At this time, we have no indication of the reason for death. The Institute offers its deepest condolences to the parents for the unfortunate and devastating loss," said the institute's director.
