For the students of Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar who want to know about the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his ideas here is a good opportunity. The institute has come up with a novel idea of launching a crash course on Mahatma Gandhi. The course is open to all the students of the institute and it will be conducted from April 28 to April 30, 2017, at Palaji Campus of IIT Gandhinagar. The students who pass this course will get one credit.

During the course, the students will have to study references from Gandhiji’s books - My Experiments with Truth and Hind Swaraj. The students will also study Social and Political Thought of Mahatma Gandhi by Bidyut Chakrabarty. As a part, of course, the institute will also screen the film ‘Gandhi’ directed by Richard Attenborough.
The course is being launched under the Social Movement Class that was launched by Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar in December 2016. The course covers the thoughts of Gandhiji on topics like: -

- Communal Harmony
- Parliamentary Democracy

The main aim of the course is to bring awareness to the students with respect to the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi and the contemporary relevance of his thoughts. The course will also focus on educating the students on basic principles of Indian Constitution that include Fraternity, Liberty, Equality, Sovereignty, Socialism and Secularism.
The credit that is acquired through this crash course will be counted towards graduation requirements at IIT Gandhinagar.
